What led you to create your own IVSP Major?
"Before beginning my studies at the University of Maryland, I had the opportunity to travel to 11 countries on a yearlong program called Kivunim: New Directions. During my travels in developed and developing countries, I saw, again and again, the prevalence of gender inequality for women. I came to Maryland with the desire to learn about how gender inequality affects women's health, globally but the university does not offer one major than encompasses women’s health issues in a global context."
How does your IVSP degree empower you for the future?
"My participation in IVSP has given me the confidence to believe that I can accomplish most anythign I put my mind to. I feel empowered by the fact that I was able to create and build my own major based on my passions and a vision for something new. As I plan for life post-graduation, I hope to work in an environment that fosters tha creativity and open-mindedness that is so inherent to the IVSP culture."
What do you like best about the Indiviudal Studies Program/staff/office support?
"Without a doubt, I would not have been able to accomplish most of what I have accomplished thus far without the constant help, support, and love from the IVSP program and staff. The IVSP staff has written me recommendation letters, sent me countless emails with connections to speakers, events and employers, funded travel stipends and a self-started girls' empowerment club, and sponsored me when I hosted a documentary screening on campus. I cannot thank the IVSP staff and program enough for supporting me in every single endeavor - big and small! I speak for all IVSP students in saying how truly lucky we are to be mentored by such intelligent and caring teachers and leaders."
